avacado holiday

we returned a holiday avacado last year. I saw another one in costco, got it at once.

"Holiday is an awesome plant. I have been watching Holiday grow in its popularity for the last 10 years. It is compact tree, reaching about 12 feet without pruning, kept smaller with some pinching of growth. Holiday produces excellent Reed like fruit, during, well surprise the Holiday Season in the early winter. Perfect timing for holiday season cooking. Dwarf or compact tree has very large fruit.

常言道，预防胜于治疗。要想玫瑰不染上白粉菌，必须做好以下几点。
1． 大部分的玫瑰都是需要全日光的，所以你的玫瑰要种在向阳的地方，并保证有足够的日照时间。
2． 玫瑰之间的间距要足够以利于其通风透气。
3． 避免傍晚浇水，尽量不要往叶子上浇水，而是尽可能浇在其根部。滴灌是一个不错的选择。有兴趣的不妨参考我的帖子“我家的面子工程 (二）（浇灌系统Irrigation system)”

这个帖子本来是回答苏桥的。搬到这里大家可以看到。看过的请飘过。
首先你那里的突然怎样？如果土壤不好，光加酸性化肥是不解决问题的。栀子花对土壤比较挑剔，土壤好了，叶子才会呈油绿色有光泽的。如果你那里土壤本来就好，当然不必换土，但是还是要加peat moss （泥炭土，泥炭藓）.
我以前的家，地下都是大石头，土壤是石灰碱性的，要挖大坑，把挖出来的土扔掉，全部用买来的好土，而且每年要在表面再添加好土。
买来的土虽然好，是那种质量比较好，略微贵些的土，但还是不够，还要掺1/4到1/3的peat moss。有了这些加了peat moss的好土，再谈酸性化肥和加铁才有意义，不然种到地里就是慢性自杀，光加化肥是不管用的。
栀子花的土壤也不能是粘土，粘土一来没有营养，二来容易积水使栀子花烂根。如果你那里是粘土也要挖大坑换土。
咖啡渣虽然是酸性，但是还是没有peat moss的效果好。peat moss在卖土的地方都有卖的。我的前房主把杜鹃花种在了全日太阳的地方（杜鹃花与栀子花一样的种植环境，喜欢半荫），土壤也不够好，去年大旱，几乎快死 了，叶子呈黄绿色，很小，很多枝都掉光了叶子，我冬天时加了掺peat moss的好土，又施了酸性的肥，今春雨水多，现在叶子已经快全部返青了，但是今春没怎么开花，不过现在总算救活了。
总结如下：
1。土壤肥沃（要加1/4到1/3 peat moss)
2。如果在炎热的南方，最好种在半荫的地方，或者朝东，只有上午有太阳。
3。土壤湿润，但是不能积水。
4。施酸性肥
5。加铁（如果叶子发黄而且叶筋明显的话，加铁必须同时加酸，否则酸度不够有铁根部也吸收不了）

白兰花树

白兰花, 算我今年的情人节礼物吧。 想了好久的花，终于下决心买了。 买回来一直盆栽，等到６尺的时候再下地。 换了三个地方了，现在的地点很合适。 早晨直射光，中午下午有树阴， 挂风有大树挡着。

我的白玉兰
二月的时候，从大华９９搬回家一盆白玉兰。 知道这花娇， 想着养死一次，也算了了我爱她的心。 生长在北方的我， 白玉兰是个美丽的梦。如今我终于可以这么近的靠近她，关怀她，我满脑子都是她。 在干旱少雨的加州，要养需要温暖湿润的娇花， 要多少的心血。
 
我把她养在盆里， 从小盆换到大盆， 看到她豆芽一样嫩的根。 我把她放到院里一个湿润的地方， 却发现阳光太少。我把她放到阳光下， 却怕加州夏日正午的酷热烤坏了她。 最后， 总算找到一个早晨有直射光，中午下午有树阴， 挂风有大树挡着的地方。 那里早有一棵已经挂果的枇杷。 问了几个朋友才送走了枇杷。 把白玉兰移过去， 挖坑半埋。 总算放心了。

然后是时时的牵挂， 日日的探望。 总要看看土是不是够湿润，是不是太多水。 不知道怎么上肥， 也不知道怎么洒药。 有些叶子落了， 揉一揉， 清香。

拿回家三个月了， 昨天，看到一个特别的枝， 饱满，圆润， 不同以往。 不尽欣喜！ 这是花苞吗？  查了图，录像。 啊，就是传说中毛笔一样的花苞啊

百香果 （passion fruit)

百香果 （passion fruit), 多年生常绿热带爬藤水果。 我也不知道哪里看的说南加院
里一定要种这么棵植物就买了。 买来后我们也没有特别照看， 一直就是半死不活的，
叶子不太好看， 我不是特别喜欢。我本来想送朋友爬他们家空在那里的花架， 幸好
人家没要， 不然这么乱的叶我都不好意思。  今天看， 终于开了两个花。 花很大，
跟铁有一比， 形状很奇怪， 象外星球的花。

和葡萄比， 百香果冬天不落叶，夏天能看花， 是优点。 缺点是好象不能象葡萄一样永远活下去， 另外果子吃起来也不如葡萄方便。 这个果子彻底熟了才能吃， 主要用来做果汁， 鸡尾酒， 马格瑞他。

心血来潮，看了网上帖子，养了蚯蚓。本来以为每次做饭的时候有机垃圾立刻能处理，还没有味道，后来根本不是那么回事，有味道，招虫，吃的还特别少。老公嘲笑我，总算搬出去了。好处是不用怎么管。这次终于用上了。还要学学怎么养好些，让他们多吃多拉。

White fly doesn't like earthworm poop

We don't use any of those things mentioned above BUT what we do use is an all natural, organic method that you may laugh at but it DOES WORK! What is it? Earthworm poop. Yep, simple ol' earthworm poop aka Earthworm Castings! :) A farmer even told me this! What to do…go out and get a huge bag of the earthworm castings and put cupfuls around your Hibiscus plants. Turn the soil over a bit around where you put the castings. Water away as usual. That's it! Somehow, the plant absorbs the 'stuff' and the nasty ol' White Flies don't like the way the Hibiscus tastes (I guess) anymore and won't lay eggs on it. Isn't that the craziest thing you've ever heard of?

Believe me, we have so many different Hibiscus in our backyard and had the most horrid case of White Fly you've ever seen. I would just get grossed out when I'd have to go and do any weeding under those Hibiscus 'trees' because I'd end up with that sticky webby stuff in my hair and there is probably nothing grosser than that. Eek! I use the castings ALL over the garden and let me tell you, White Fly is basically a thing of the past. My DH knows that I will always ask him to pick me up a few big bags of 'earthworm poop' for the garden, particularly if I notice even one teeny little White Fly around (our neighbors have Hibiscus and those WFs also love Plumeria). Trust me on this one. Truly.

PS: I mentioned this and an agricultural scientist said that yep, I was correct, that Earthworm castings is one of the best things to use as a systemic in helping to keep White Flies away. :)
